The City of Stayton is in the process of establishing a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). The CERT Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community. This team will be used to assist the City in parades, police activities and help with disaster response. The team will meet regularly after the initial training to learn about disaster recovery, preparedness and city/police operations. Training is free and open to anyone 18 years or older. The dates for the initial training will be Monday evenings from 6:00 pm till 9:30 pm:
October 13th, 20th, 27th
November 3rd, 10th, 17th
Saturday,November 20th 9:00 am till 1:00 pm will be the final exercise.
Location: Calvary Lutheran Church, 198 Fern Ridge Rd SE, Stayton
Must attend all dates to receive completion certificate.
